Purpose

Use the correct MVT workflow for the acquisition, load synthetic STIX indicators, examine module output, validate matches, identify non-IOC anomalies, and state defensible limitations.

Procedure

Establish scope

Select a case, record consent/authority, note the device and acquisition type, and avoid claiming access to data that was not acquired.

Verify integrity

Compare the calculated and recorded SHA-256 values before processing.

Prepare and load indicators

Decrypt the Finder backup when required and use mvt download-iocs or an explicit STIX path.

Run the correct command

Use check-backup, check-fs, or check-androidqf according to the evidence source.

Interpret and report

Separate exact IOC matches, anomalies, contextual evidence, alternative explanations, and collection limitations.

MVT v3 command organization

The current project exposes mvt, mvt-ios, and mvt-android. The general command hosts version, completion, plugins, and IOC download functions.

Android ADB workflow

mvt-android check-adb is modeled only to demonstrate its deprecation warning. The simulator emphasizes AndroidQF acquisition followed by check-androidqf.

Public IOC limitation

MVT documentation warns that public indicators alone cannot determine that a device is clean. The lab grades cautious interpretation rather than a binary verdict.
